What you sell isn't the business you are in and until you understand that, you will never have a business. We all mistakes, we have all prayed for wisdom, we have all joined programs and failed, we have complained about lack of support, we've lost money and almost quit. But, we keep saying to ourselves that we know there is an answer that can change our life. We know it exists so we stay in the game. So here's the secret....

When people think of McDonald's, they think of hamburgers and think that is the business that McDonald's is in. Wrong! Did you know that McDonald's is the largest commercial real estate holder in America? Did you also know that they are the largest toy manufacturer? So what McDonald's sells is hamburgers, but their business is real estate and toys. They sell food and toys to their franchise owners.

Example #2:

We all know Madonna for her music. Were you aware that Madonna earns on her loyal fans through concert tickets, books, children's books, t-shirts, plus she owns a host of restaurants and earns royalties on her movies. So what Madonna sells is her music but her business is a host of different residual income streams.

Last, but not least, is the famous Ms. Oprah Winfrey. We all know Oprah for her television program but she earns her money through the items she sells on her website and the subscriptions she receives through her magazine. She also produces her own television program so you can see where she is earning her income.

Do you see the pattern here? You may think that the business you are in is Meleleuca or Liberty League or Coastal Vacations. The company you represent is the suppliers business, not yours, and you are simply a vendor for them. The 1099 that you receive each year is proof that it is NOT your business.
